Pharmacy Assistant

July 2023 • Manchester, KY

What I liked

They are really flexible with my college schedule and I am able to earn certifications while I finish my studies for my Bachelor's degree.

What I wish was different

Sometimes I wish we had a few more people but we are making the best of it that we are able to for the patients. I also do wish they wouldn't dock a whole day's pay if you forget to give part of the promotional speech.

Advice

It can be a bit of an overload at times working in a Pharmacy and trying to meet and exceed the expectation of supervisors and patients alike.

Manager

September 2017 - June 2022 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

Walgreen's employees and regular customers really made my job enjoyable.

What I wish was different

Since Walgreen's is changing a few things within the company structure, many managers were shuffled around. While this created opportunities to meet new people, it was a bit regrettable to build relationships only to have them shifted again and constantly make new ones.

Advice

Please be open to learning everything there is to offer. It makes work more enjoyable and you a more valuable CSA and a manager! If possible, apply for the Designated Hitter prosition.

Pharmacy Technician Intern

June - July 2019 • Cerritos, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the patience the pharmacists and other technicians had with me. In comparison to pharmacy technician courses, this is much more real and serious. The experience was great, I feel that I learned to be very comfortable with Walgreen's computer systems and process of filling medications.

What I wish was different

Advice

Study the common medications and medical abbreviations you learned in pharmacy tech courses. It is so useful!!!!

What I wish was different

Certified Pharmacy Technician

September 2014 • Springfield, OR

What I liked

I enjoyed helping patients on the other end of the medical side. I get to talk with them about medications they need, are taking, or have stopped. We keep up with medicine that is late to be picked up so that they don't run out. I like helping patients who are equally educated on their well being!

What I wish was different

I like the job I do, so when I have the free time I work as much as possible. However, when I am a full time student I don't work as much so I do lose time with patients and learning more about everyday work in a pharmacy.

Advice

I would like to share the fact that pharmacy work I believe, is just as necessary as medical work because we are the other end of the "healing." Its constantly busy, fulling about 450-500 scripts a day and also administering immunizations! I do think it needs to be valued at the same scale as a doctors office or hospital!
