Pfizer, Inc.

Summer Growth Experience Intern

June - August 2022 • Pearl River, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the environment. Everyone was very happy to speak to interns and share their experiences.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more organized events for the interns to interact with each other.

Advice

Advocate for yourself and what you want to do. The job/department may not be your exact interest, but you can shadow in other departments and learn about any job on campus as long as you ask.

Summer Intern

May - August 2023 • Pearl River, NY

What I liked

I learned a lot about the pharmaceutical industry and got to do really cool lab work. My manager worked very closely with me, and I never felt nervous about asking questions. Every person I met at Pfizer was welcoming and happy to give me advice.

What I wish was different

It was challenging to find summer housing near the site that was affordable, and the program did not offer a housing stipend outside of the hourly pay rate. The pay rate was very good, but options for housing were all expensive.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to talk to your colleagues or managers. Set up meetings with them to chat, and do it early on. Almost everyone will be happy to talk with you and share their experiences, and you will learn so much from those interactions!

Data Analyst

May - August 2022 • Collegeville, PA

What I liked

I liked the workplace environment, the tasks confronted on a daily basis, the overall project we had been working on, and the overall team dynamic.

What I wish was different

I wish we were able to work in a more in-person environment. However, this was during the summer of 2022, so COVID policies were still in effect for the most part.

Advice

I would tell someone going into an internship to do as much research as possible and take as many notes as you can once you are there. You never know when something your manager said one time can come up and be useful. This will also show that you are driven and willing to take the extra step to better both yourself and the company.

Commercial Effectiveness Intern

June - August 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Everyone is very welcoming and friendly and is willing to take time out of their day to meet with you to network and answer any questions you may have.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to do a hybrid internship to experience more of the company in person as I was a remote intern.

Advice

Ask questions: people at Pfizer love answering questions and will encourage you to do so. If there's someone you'll like to meet and learn about their job or how they got to their position, don't be afraid to send them an email to ask to have a quick chat!

Advanced Customer Engagement Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

What I learned from this experience is that I like to work in a project-based internship (long-term, more control over the process) rather than task-based internship (a different subject/topic task every day).

Engineering, maintenance, and utilities coop

January - August 2021 • Andover, MA

What I liked

I liked the atmosphere and the people the company employed.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more guidance throughout the experience.

Advice

I would say that giving everything more time to settle down would be a very good idea. It is very stressful to overthink every small detail.

Global Supply Summer Intern

June - August 2021 • Myrtle Point, OR

What I liked

I liked the team and really enjoyed how welcoming everyone was. Throughout the experience, I was really grateful for all of the help that was offered to me. I felt as if this made networking really accessible to everyone, from interns all the way up to senior directors. I also really enjoyed some of the projects I was assigned to work on. I believe they resonated with some of my passions surrounding tackling inequities that exist in the world today.

What I wish was different

There were a few portions of the onboarding process that I wish had been different. Aside from that, the only thing I would have wanted is to speak with my manager about getting more projects to make my mark on such a large company.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to never shy away from tackling big projects. This is especially relevant to projects that aren't necessarily assigned to you as an intern, which shows that you are eager to put your best foot forward in all your endeavors. I am really thankful I stepped out of my comfort zone to work on exciting projects that were bigger than just me and the work my team had been doing to learn more about the issues facing humanity. These problems are only up to future generations to solve!

Supply Chain Intern

June - September 2021 • Collegeville, PA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

To always go for the opportunity! When I had applied for the position, I initially was hesitant and didn't want to apply because I had assumed that the opportunity required interns to be in-person. I was grateful that I took the leap and did the interview where I did find out that the opportunity was a remote internship, which fit my schedule perfectly.

Information Management Intern

June - August 2020 • Groton, CT

What I liked

The managers were very knowledgeable and provided great guidance throughout the process. All the employees were very intelligent, but very humble and patience with the interns like myself. This allowed me to grasp everything with ease and then make a true impact on the company in a matter of my my 10 week internship.

What I wish was different

With the virus I would've like more intern activities to engage all the interns to get to know each other, but it is also hard given the pandemic is still in place and virtual events will never be up to par as real in person interaction.

Advice

I would tell any student to ask as many questions as possible and meet as many people as possible everyone is kind, engaging, and definitely willing to talk with you and share their knowledge.

Communications Intern

June - August 2020 • Groton, CT

What I liked

I enjoyed the group I was placed in and the work we did for the company. Our job was to prepare and send mass emails to the entire department and company, which is very important to daily operations. I liked the trust my team put in me to complete my assignments without micro managing me.

What I wish was different

The internship was completely online, so I did not get the full office experience. I wish I could've gone into the office and interacted with my coworkers and supervisors.

Advice

Ask questions, network, and work hard. Asking questions shows you care and want to learn and the answer will clarify your confusion. Networking is beneficial in so many ways and can give you connections that will last a long time and open doors in the future. A hard work ethic is great in any job, especially an internship where you are trying to prove yourself. You can teach someone with a hard work ethic how to do a job, but you can't teach someone with the right skills a great work ethic.
