Pfizer, Inc.

Data Engineering Intern

May - September 2018 • Groton, CT

What I liked

I liked the networking events that they organized for interns across departments. I also really enjoyed working in a totally new field - pharmaceuticals. My team was very supportive and the on-the-job training Pfizer has you complete is useful in adding depth to one's resume. The project I worked on also had a big impact on the team that I worked with and I found it very rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish the Business Technology intern events were more broadly shared.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions. Go above and beyond with your training. Seek out employees to help you accomplish your project.

Procurement Assistant

May - August 2018 • Groton, CT

What I liked

My summer internship at Pfizer far exceeded my expectations. When I first received my formal notification about my position, I did not have a clear understanding about the daily responsibilities within a procurement department. All I basically knew involving procurement was it would encompass the act of buying goods and services. I learned quickly about the nuances within Pfizer’s Global Procurement Department and its crucial role within this top Fortune 500 company. I was extremely fortunate with my internship to have a supervisor who was willing to not only mentor me but who was also very willing to assign me more challenging tasks as the summer went on. I enjoyed working on longer and bigger assignments with increased budgets and importance. Another enjoyable aspect of this internship was the ability to visit the corporate manufacturing headquarters of several vendors. We were allowed exclusive access to tour their factories plus meet with senior personnel. On a daily basis, I was also able to observe and interact with high performing industry leading executives. I loved the flexibility within my department to branch out and connect with other departments. As a result, I was able to build a vast network not only at Pfizer but at other pharmaceutical companies, healthcare startups and vendors including Waters, Perkins Elmer, WuXi and Thermo Fisher. The overall leadership experience gained during this internship was invaluable. These skills will be critical to my future career path at Gettysburg and beyond.

What I wish was different

Just more networking with Pfizer corporate executives.

Advice

Network!

The company culture was amazing. Everyone was so nice and willing to set aside time to teach me something new, or let me observe.

Advice

Dont be afraid to ask questions and take initiative! Everyone there is so nice and willing to help you learn. Ask questions and take what you have learned to the next level.

Clinical Innovation Intern

May - August 2017 • Collegeville, PA

What I liked

I loved how they had a big internship program with around 100 other interns. I was on the networking committee and planned happy hours, ping pong tournaments and other fun activities for all of the interns. All of the employees were super willing to help you out if you ever needed anything.

What I wish was different

I was the only one on my team in the Collegeville office so sometimes I wish I was placed in an office where my manager was because it was hard to communicate with her over the phone all the time.

Advice

Definitely take advantage of all the intern opportunities that are given. You will get to meet a great group of people and network. Also take advantage of networking because you never know who you will want to reach out to in the future.

Business Technology Intern

June - August 2017 • Madison, NJ

What I liked

Pfizer has an excellent culture; everyone was extremely helpful and kind. This was a proper internship program with many talks and fun events planned both with the whole office and with just other interns.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that was different was a better integration in our roles- we were all overwhelmed at first, but caught on soon enough.

Advice

Utilize ALL the connections you make. Network and socialize with people in the office. Those people can likely help you in the future.

Advice

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Those are part of the learning process, especially in a biology lab setting. Be up front, honest, and prepared to give solutions to how to fix/prevent those mistakes in the future.
