What I wish was different

Cashier

July - November 2021 • Newberry, FL

What I liked

I sincerely enjoyed the fact that my managers and employers were understanding of my situation as a full-time student and allowed me to work once a week rather than 5 days a week as I had done over the Summer. It was rather difficult job since we were under staffed but it allowed me to save and pay off a lot of my responsibilities.

What I wish was different

I wish that some of our coworkers were more proactive in their tasks rather than letting others carry their weight.

Advice

Always be kind and hard-working in your position. You never know how your actions will affect others and, even if you don't receive immediate rewards, working honestly will always pay off in the long run. Furthermore, if there are some coworkers who are intent on making your job harder, do your best to be polite but do not allow them to use you. Make sure your manager knows that they are not doing their job and, if nothing is done, then it's probably time to look for another job. You're here to work, not make friends. If you do end up becoming friends with your coworkers, then that's a bonus :)

Shift Leader

April 2018 • Stow, OH

What I liked

Being able to get the hours that I wanted, pay is pretty decent, the job itself is pretty easy and the customers are great majority of the time.

What I wish was different

It would have been much better had I worked with people who actually cared even a little bit about their job and who wouldn't call off unnecessarily and quit because they can't handle an easy job.

Advice

Expect the unexpected, never get comfortable because it's always changing, check prepared to work with people who just don't care.

Ice Cream Server

May - October 2019 • Lincoln Park, MI

What I liked

The comradery was the best part of the job. All of the girls there were mostly in high school and their opinions helped me shape how I would start teaching during the fall. Also, I enjoyed speaking with customers and helping with anything that makes the day more productive and safe.

What I wish was different

Personally, I wish that there was a manager there at all times instead of having senior crew (closers) to be in charge of the day to day operations at night since the only manager worked until 5 pm at the latest. There were several things that could have been avoided and reported earlier that would have made the place more communicative and honest.

Advice

Pay attention to who is working on what part of the order. The area is small and busy so you can easily get lost in what you're doing unless the entire crew is working together.

What I wish was different
