Immigrant Legal Services Intern
May - July 2018 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
The job gave me a lot of freedom and responsibility to work with clients on my own. It gave me a lot of exposure to a field that I otherwise wouldn't have learned much about and was overall an enriching, character-building experience.
What I wish was different
It's unpaid. It is what it is. They're super willing to help with stipend applications, though! The office is also somewhat out of the way so commuting may be difficult.
Advice
Immigration law is a field that can be very emotionally taxing to work in, so a strong work-life balance is key.
