Assistant to Director of Food and Beverage Department
March 2016 • Appleton, WI
What I liked
This last summer was my fourth year with the Timber Rattlers and working in the Food and Beverage Department. Over the time I have worked there I have learned a lot about the Sport Management field, what it runs like in real life and some of the overlooked aspects of running a stadium. I was finally able to make the transition from working within stands to being in charge of my own stand for entire games and homestands. This gave me a chance to expand on my leadership and management skills throughout the summer.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have gotten a more formal training when I transitioned to managing stands on a normal basis. There were things I struggled with and was not sure how to handle some situations. The stand suffered and I appeared unprepared to handle the transition at times.
Advice
This job may feel like one that is just useful for some quick money and a relaxed work environment, but if you take it seriously and are seriously interested in making a career for yourself in the Sport Management field, working for the Timber Rattlers can be an invaluable resource and stepping stone into the next phase of your career.
