What I liked

As an education major, the time I have been able to spend in a local school has been so valuable. I've gotten to spend so much more time in the classroom because of this job and observe over 10 different teachers. They have been so flexible with my school schedule and I am thankful for that.

What I wish was different

Advice

I believe an education major should work for USD 259 as a coop student if possible. You get so much more time in the school compared to the time you spend in schools through your program alone.

What I liked

As a Freshman wanting to get an education degree, being able to go into a school and teach my first year of college was an amazing experience. Not only was I able to fully decide that teaching was what I wanted to do, but I also got a year of experience with actual students to help me as I took my education classes at school.

What I wish was different

I only wish I would have started sooner!

Don't be afraid to ask for responsibility and take charge. You only miss the chances you never take!

Special Ed Teacher/ 5th Grade Teacher

What I liked

I was welcomed into the school with open arms. Many people told me that taking over a classroom at semester is hard, which it is but I had teachers from all over the building ready to help me with anything that I needed. The support that was given to me when I was having hard times was very important to me. My hard work from my student teaching experience and my work in the special education classroom allowed me to move to my dram job of 5th grade for the new school year. Wichita State College of Education really prepares you for what you need to do to be the best teacher that you can be.

Advice

Absorb everything that you can during your student teaching it is a good way to build up your tool belt and remember what helps with one class might not help with the next.
