Incredibly supportive community that encouraged me to take risks. Also was able to meet a lot of people across different industries and expand my network!

What I wish was different

There was a large final project but I would have preferred more daily tasks.

Real Estate Finance Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the in-person internship experience. I was very fortunate to have a great team that taught me a lot. I had no real estate background coming into this internship but I had two wonderful buddies that helped me as well as a network of people who were so willing to answer any questions I had. I worked on so many cool projects that I found myself leveraging that in other job interviews and in classroom settings!

What I wish was different

I wish I worked closer to the product more instead of behind the screen.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions and use the resources around you, everyone at WeWork is so open to helping. Setting up coffee chats with people across the organization has enhanced my experience there because I learned a lot about people's backgrounds, their journey to their position at WeWork, and many life advice to help me architect the career path that is fitting for me.

Process Optimization Finance Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved meeting with business students from other business schools and liberal arts programs and comparing our experiences. We all landed at a WeWork internship, but the way we landed there all differed. Students in artsy majors were trying out the interior design program, and Ivy League computer programmers were changing the way the managers do their work. It was an incredible opportunity to work closely with such a high achieving group, from a diverse background. The work that I did was fully integrated with managers and I genuinely was making an impact on my team's productivity week by week. This was a very gratifying aspect of the work. There was always something to get done and I learned something new from every project.

What I wish was different

I learned a ton of really great skills especially when creating a beautiful deliverable, but I prefer much more quantitative work. It was evaluating the productivity of finance, more in terms of process flows - rather than profitability. This is a personal preference that ended up helping me choose what work aligns with the way I think.

Advice

Never underestimate the power of excel and other incredible tools we learn at Whitman. The best requirement Whitman has is the Microsoft Excel Certification during the fall semester of your first year. Understanding how excel can elevate your productivity in any role is incredibly important.

Security Operations

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the company culture and how they strived to boost your network, as well as your professional being. They offered multiple ways to build your strengths and weaknesses through lunch & learns, organizations, and personal coaches.

What I wish was different

I do not wish anything to be different because it was a great experience.

Advice

Your network is your net worth. I got the internship through a network and made even more networks after I finished my internship which will push me to better set myself up for success.

Project Delivery Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved that I was taken seriously by my team; I was given full ownership over the projects I worked on, dynamic feedback, and a full-time workload. Not to mention that WeWork's perks were also fantastic as we got free bi-weekly manicures, massages, lunches, etc.!

What I wish was different

The environment is quite hectic and perhaps more time with mentors/managers would have been appreciated.

Community Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Absolutely loved the company culture and the people on my team. I felt really supported and respected as an intern, and I had the opportunity to hold a high level of responsibility. WeWork is always pushing the boundaries of conventional business, and it is a truly inspiring environment. Also, my internship was a lot of fun!

What I wish was different

Not much, really. Pay and hours were very fair, and I was very happy with my experience.

Advice

Go into the internship as a sponge ready to soak up all you can! 8 weeks goes by ridiculously fast, and you can only make the best of it by seizing every opportunity and talking to as many people as you can. There are so many fascinating and unique people at WeWork, and it is one of my favorite things about the company.

Community Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked that I felt immediately integrated into the WeWork team. Everyone I worked with was inclusive and welcoming. I was able to take on big tasks, like planning a member appreciation event for over 1400 people, and my manager was super proactive about asking what else I would like to learn.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been more organized and structured. All of the management was friendly, but also super busy, and that made organizing interns not a top priority. I also wish the work itself had been a little more engaging.

Advice

Ask questions and take initiative! If you're bored, say so, and your team will help find you a new and exciting task.
