What I liked

I loved the opportunity to make a tangible difference for the community. Every day you built trail or removed invasive weeds, you could go back to your tent and know for certain you made a positive impact. Also, the people you meet are just incredible and huge amounts of fun!

What I wish was different

It was difficult to plan for hitches sometimes. Plans changed frequently, so being flexible was key! But, overall, I feel like they provided us with as much information as they could at the time.

Advice

Try to get on a backcountry crew if that's your thing! No cell service, only the stars and your crew to keep you company. It's a really sweet summer gig that can teach you a lot about yourself if you let it.

What I liked

The community at WCCC is incredibly close, everyone involved is focused on doing quality work.

What I wish was different

Organizing employees with project partners was sometimes unorganized, but we still got our work done, and finished the assigned tasks.

Advice

Get ready for a summer of hard work, but all of it is worth it. Helping maintain our public lands was a great experience with a great crew!

What I liked

I liked that it gave me a new experience. It was challenging and rewarding. Pushed me to do things I never thought I could do. It gave me a new circle of connections and relationships. I also loved how it was based outdoors.

What I wish was different

I wish I could’ve gotten paid a little more. But in the end it was the experience that mattered most to me. I also wished I wasn’t away from home so often.

Advice

The advice I would give is step out of your comfort zone and see what you’re made of. It’s worth it and so rewarding.

What I liked

Lots of work outside! As well as camping all week.

What I wish was different

If there was more days where I got my Sunday to myself, instead of leaving in the afternoon for work.

Advice

Realize that the people you work with are the same people you will be seeing at dinner time, as well as first thing in the morning. There really is no "heading home" until the weekend.
