What I liked

Communication with customers and coworkers were always a highlight of the time there. The management there was understanding and comfortable with changing time schedules and giving raises. I loved the family feel that was created. But because it was a for-profit business you could still see some corners that were avoided.

What I wish was different

Opportunity to expand beyond the position that you were offered. While it was somewhat easy to switch, I wished they let you try more positions and find something that was important yet rewarding.

Advice

Also try to make a personal connection with the customer, so next time they come back for you. It also helps when they tell management directly about you. If you get to know a customer well enough, sometimes they might invite you to some food or an event, which is always a bonus in my book.

I enjoyed getting to see all the co-workers that I have gotten to know personally over the years working together.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had spent the summer interning or finding a seasonal position in my prospected field.

Advice

Summer jobs are important. They teach you work ethic, help with being able to network and create connections, and you get to save up money. Do not however, only spend your summer working, it ruins your social life, can make you feel trapped, and you deny yourself any opportunity to get an internship or volunteer experience.

Supply Chain Intern

What I liked

The internship was set up to be rotational. This was very beneficial, because supply chain is so broad. This gave me the opportunity to get a feel for Systems Coordinating, Operations Planning, and Transportation Planning. From this I figured out I liked the transportation planning portion best with the company.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been a little longer. We worked on an independent project that I was very passionate about, but felt as if my time was cut short as the the internship was only 10 weeks long.

Advice

One piece of advice is that the internship is what you make of it. The company is so big, and I was fortunate enough to be able to work cross-functionally with many different departments, and grow in my networking opportunities.
