What I liked

I loved the entire atmosphere of working for Utah County! The leadership is amazing, they work really well with the many different schedules of everyone there! The Job its self is out of this world.. You get to travel the country helping people/communities in need. The support and generosity those towns have to offer are unbelievable.

What I wish was different

If I could just say a few things, First I wish that this past season had a better year for fire. This last year was super wet, so we didn't get to go out much but we still made the best of it. Second, I wish there was more opportunities to move in within Utah County because they only offer 6 full time positions which has been filled with the same people since I began working there many years ago.

Advice

If you are going to become part of the wildfire firefighting team, make sure you are physical fit and ready to learn. These types of jobs are para military. You will learn a ton and become a new person if you are willing to stick it through and buckle down to the tasks asked of you.

What I liked

I loved having an incredibly unique job that allowed me to travel and help people. I enjoyed the experience it gave me and the skills that I acquired. Firefighting was also something that I've always wanted to do so this gave me the opportunity to check something off my bucket list. I loved the learning curve and how much learning was involved with the job. The job was certainly challenging on many levels and that was another thing that I loved, each day was unique and had its own problems to solve that were sometimes similar but were also unique in their own way. No two days were identical and for me, that's a necessity.
