Stink Bug Shepherd

May - October 2018 • Logan, UT

What I liked

My coworkers are awesome. It has been my favorite job so far, because it is a mix between field and lab. In field I enjoy beating trees collecting stink bugs and surveying for other bugs. In lab, I enjoy typing data into excel and also carrying for the BMSB colonies.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was more to do to work with BMSB during winter when they hibernate. I also wish I could learn more about how the graduate students interpret the data and publish the research.

Advice

Have fun, but work hard. The coworkers are all awesome, so don't expect to just "show up" and get paid. Make the most out of every minute.

Lab Technician

April - October 2018 • Logan, UT

What I liked

I enjoyed the chance to apply concepts I was learning in my classes to real lab work. It was a neat experience to solve problems and learn skills needed by professionals in biology.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more attention placed on my personal advancement by the team. Most everything I did was because of my own efforts to ask questions or learn something new.

Advice

Be prepared to learn and to do basic scrub work to start. It’s all part of the experience.
