US Navy

Weapons Military Characteristics Officer

June - August 2018 • Jacksonville, FL

What I liked

I enjoyed working with a large roster of people from many different workshops around NAS Jacksonville, the most well known naval base in Jacksonville. Working and meeting so many different people was a great opportunity to share knowledge and network with people who work in fields I am interested. It was a great opportunity.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more time to meet and work with all the people I met. They got to come to our workshop on our end of the base, but the meet and work time was very limited and I missed out on a few opportunities that were brought up during the course of the few days.

Advice

I would remind people to take advantage of every opportunity they get to work with new people and to learn as much as possible from any new experience.

Military Training Instructor

November 2016 • Fort George G. Meade, MD

What I liked

I liked the opportunity to interact with students and watch them grow as Mass Communication Specialists.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the ability to spend more time with them! But due to the restrictions of the course and requirements of the operational forces, I wasn't able to.

Advice

This job requires you to be a multitude of things in one and taking the opportunity to breathe and do things for yourself is completely necessary. Take some additional courses in counseling, finances, SAPR, Suicide Prevention and computer skills. You will need experience in all of them.

What I liked

The experience and exposure to other cultures I got. A few of the kids I worked with were from out of the country.

What I wish was different

The hours.

Advice

Go with the flow, especially when working with kids. Not everything is going to go as you plan.
