What I liked

It was a fantastic internship, very hands on, working with a great team, lots of opportunities for networking and enjoyed the work I did.

I wish I had gotten to be in person more often.

Rule of Law Intern

May - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved how close-knit and supportive the work environment was. I also very much enjoyed the cultural exchange I participated in and the access I had to government officials and other experts in the DC area. It gave me a high dosage of useful insights in a short span of time.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have come away feeling that the experience will help me to find other jobs. I didn't get the sense that the work I was doing is highly valuable, at least compared to STEM careers.

Advice

Be introspective and try to understand what is meaningful for you in an internship/work experience. If you can find that (and I would say that I have), then it will be easier to avoid the pressure for career conformity (and money-chasing), and you're probably more likely to come away from it happier than you otherwise would.
