UrbanStems

Corporate Partnerships Intern

March - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved the flexibility and responsibility that I had within UrbanStems. My coworkers were great and they made sure that I made the most out of my internship. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful and I got to work on a variety of projects, which has provided me with a diverse set of skills.

What I wish was different

There were times that I felt like there was a disconnect between me and the rest of the company, especially since I was their only intern at the time. There was a big transition happening at the time and I wish that things could have been communicated better. This also means that I could have asked for more guidance, even if it scared me to reach out to my superiors.

Advice

Apply to startups because they are great! You learn so much and get so much great experience. However, be prepared for things to run a little rougher than at an established organization. Don't be afraid to ask for information on what is happening internally!

Product Operations Intern

May 2017 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I was given real responsibility to manage projects, but I still had a lot of support from my bosses to help me. I had one overall project that took most of my time, but then I had a series of smaller tasks that I worked on throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had a second long-term project so I could've managed both of them simultaneously.

Advice

Have the confidence to just start on a project given only a little information. Give it your best shot for one hour and then ask for advice after you have a good start.
