Student Research Assistant

June - August 2020 • Redlands, CA

What I liked

The research experience at Redlands gave me an insight into what research in the Math field looks like. It's a lot different than being in a Math class but definitely a great learning experience. One thing I really liked was learning about new concepts on the job and applying them in the research. For example, I got to learn a ABM language which I later used to analyse a model.

What I wish was different

I wished that my research had much more structure to it than it being abstract and 'on-your-own-time'. Definitely wished that the job was deadline-oriented and strict on that.

Advice

To any sophomores or first year students out there who are Math majors, research opportunities in early years of college are crucial for future endeavours in Math. It'll help make decisions about later research/industrial opportunities and when apply to grad school or jobs. With regards to the job, make a strong knit schedule for yourself or work with your advisor to come up with one.
