Undergraduate Student Researcher
October 2021 • Pittsburgh, PA
What I liked
I enjoy working in a clinical setting and getting to work directly with patients. I was also able to work independently on my own projects and collaborate with others.
What I wish was different
N/A
Advice
I would advise students to find a lab that they are very interested in so that they can build a solid foundation in that lab. I know people who were only at a lab for a semester and didn't enjoy their work. On the other hand, I've been at my lab for over a year and have been able to become close with my coworkers and given more responsibilities and independence.

Student nurse intern
June - August 2021 • Pittsburgh, PA
What I liked
Being a student nurse intern allowed me to fully immerse myself into being a nurse before I graduate with my BSN. I was working the same full-time hours that my preceptor was. I was able to better utilize the skills I had learned in school and put them into real life. Due to COVID limiting my clinical experiences through school, I feel that having the internship truly enhanced my nursing skills to what they are now and better prepared me to eventually take on a role as an RN.
What I wish was different
I wish this opportunity could have been offered during the end of sophomore year given that Duquesne already has their nursing students complete two semesters of clinical at the end of the academic year.
Advice
Anyone who is considering any type or internship or externship should take any opportunity you can. If you have the opportunity to have an internship, even if it’s not in the unit you want, take it!! The skills you learn on any type of unit can be transferred to a PCT job and into your future RN career.

HR Summer Associate
June - August 2023 • Harrisburg, PA
What I liked
My position was hybrid and provided me with a lot of flexibility depending on what was best that day. I was not stuck in one area of HR, I got to shadow and spend time with different departments each week. My supervisor and buddy really cared about me -- I felt supported and valued as part of the team. Throughout the summer, I worked on a variety of projects with various teams and each of my days was unique.
What I wish was different
There wasn't much of an opportunity for networking since a lot of employees work from home and interns are spread out throughout the state. Wish my program was longer than 10 weeks!
Advice
Be open-minded! You will have the opportunity to explore a lot of different areas and this opportunity is what you make of it.
