University of Montana Flathead Lake Biological Station

Research Assistant

June - August 2020 • Polson, MT

What I liked

The station at Flathead lake is gorgeous. There was 24/7 access to a gravel beach and kayaks and canoes were available for checkout at any time. It was a short drive to any number of wilderness areas and hikes. The faculty at the station were all very friendly and accommodating, and happy to share whatever research projects they were working on.

What I wish was different

Because of COVID, there were not many people at the station. While that was nice in its own way, it would have been fun to be able to meet more people. The station can't really be blamed for that, and they did an excellent job making sure everyone was safe.

Advice

If you end up working here or taking classes here, make the most of it! The time will fly by and it is truly a unique experience.
