What I liked
The experience and the knowledge I was able to gain. One of the most valuable experiences was how to approach a seemingly impossible problem.
What I wish was different
Advice
Be very patient. Working as a research assistant, I’ve came to realize that not everything will go according to the plan. They key is to be patient, approach the problem from a different perspective, and keep trying until you get the results.

Graduate Assistant/ Event Coordinator
June - August 2018 • Houston, TX
What I liked
I enjoyed learning how to plan for a large event using resources such as Microsoft Planner & Sharepoint. Work schedules were also pretty flexible as long as we communicated with our supervisor.
What I wish was different
The job can felt mundane after a while, depending on the work schedule. A lot of time was spent waiting on others to respond to email or approve of my work.
Advice
Be on time, communicate, and pay close attention to details.

Lab Researched
May - July 2018 • Houston, TX
What I liked
I learned how to work in a lab with faculty and a mentor as well as what my major can consist of. The most basic things from very good lab techniques to knowing how to share my research with others. A great deal of my work I did have to run alone and put together alone and that's really cool and intimidating, so starting that early and under the wings of really interesting people was great.
What I wish was different
I wish I didn't have as many vials from experiments to wash, because working in a lab can be tough and you definitely have to clean up after yourself while multitasking.
Advice
If you do an REU- research undergraduate experience it'll definitely let you see into the world of academia and engineering. It definitely taught me that I don't want to go into that, which maybe that still could change in the future, but it's something everyone should be exposed to in helping you decide what you want to do with your major.
