Peer Mentor

May - July 2019 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed being a part of introducing incoming freshmen to the University of Arizona and showing them where and how to find community on campus.

What I wish was different

I wish the program could have gone longer than the six weeks!

Advice

What I realized most about this job is that while I was teaching the Topics in Leadership class, I did not necessarily feel much like a teacher. That was in fact only one of my responsibilities with this job. The main key focus is to be there for your students through their transition from high school to college. All of them are accomplishing so much in their lives so early and it can become overwhelming at times. Being that person who is there for them through it all and a resource to them is an utmost honor.
