United States Pretrial Services

About United States Pretrial Services

The mission of Pretrial Services for the Southern District of California is defined by two Federal Statutes; the Pretrial Services Act of 1982 and the Bail Reform Act of 1984. In the broadest terms, it is our responsibility to collect, verify, and report to the judicial officer prior to the release hearing, information pertaining to the pretrial release of each individual charged with a Felony or Class A Misdemeanor federal criminal offense. We then recommend release conditions, and supervise any defendants released into our custody. In addition, Pretrial Services has an onsite drug laboratory that analyzes specimens collected from defendants.
