Student Intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved meeting a lot of new people and being able to be apart of everything that was going on. Including going to different meetings and learning the overall mission of the GSA CABS unit.

What I wish was different

More interns in my assigned department would have been nice.

Advice

Just be yourself! I was really nervous but they are really happy to receive help and a person who wants to learn more about the GSA!

Business and Industry Pathways Summer Hire

May - July 2019 • Auburn, WA

What I liked

Auburn is in a beautiful area. One of my managers was really great to work with. You learn a lot of new things about how the public sector works and how the government functions.

What I wish was different

The projects assigned didn't have a big impact. There also wasn't enough work for the interns to do. The people who worked there were fairly boring.

Advice

Ask about the project you'll be working on before accepting the internship.

What I liked

Very flexible! Lots of opportunities for personal and professional growth on the job, as well as understanding how the federal government does acquisitions.

Communication Intern

June - September 2019 • Auburn, WA

What I liked

I liked that I was able to start their social media strategy. They gave me projects that I could plan completely, from the timeline to wrap up. The work life balance was great and the 40 hour commitment was not as bad since I could work from home.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a little more structure-- they gave me projects as they needed but nothing seemed targeted.

Advice

Be ready to adapt and be willing to wear new hats as projects develop.
