U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Biological Intern

May - August 2017 • Jet, OK

What I liked

I enjoyed my coworkers, who were very down-to-earth and fun to work with. I also enjoyed working in a new part of the country I had never experienced before.

What I wish was different

My job responsibilities were very different from what was advertised. I ended up doing mostly manual labor and maintenance, whereas I had been under the impression that my primary role would be conducting wildlife surveys and habitat management. While I still experienced these tasks, it was not as big a part of my internship as I had expected.

Advice

Make sure to do your research and find out specifically what your day-to-day responsibilities will be during your internship. Also, make sure you work hard and keep a positive attitude during your entire internship. Your supervisor will notice this and will be willing to write you a good recommendation.
