U.S. Anti-Doping Agency

Olympic Education Intern

May - July 2019 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

I liked that I got to work on a variety of different projects with a variety of different people around the office. I felt like what I was doing was actually meaningful work, not just entering numbers into a system.

What I wish was different

I wish that my start date was a little bit later. I started the Monday immediately following the end of school, and I wish I had had a week in between the end of school and the start of my internship so that I could go home.

Advice

I would share that the company culture at USADA is unmatched. It is truly a team environment, and it's very hard to distinguish who is a senior executive at USADA and who is a lower-level employee based solely on office behavior. It's a very welcoming and supportive workplace and I would advise any CC student to apply for the internship.

What I liked

I liked the team-based atmosphere and the support that I got from my coworkers. They always were asking me to come sit in on meetings, help them write reports, and seeing if I wanted to jump on their projects. I felt very involved and valuably used throughout my internship.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had a later start date. I understood that since I had to leave the internship early for soccer that I should make those days up on the front end, but it would have been nice to have a few more days off between the end of school and working full time.

Advice

I would tell future interns to make sure they take advantage of the resources provided to them through their internships. Always go to meetings, always help different people around the office, and make sure to make and keep those connections. Everyone at USADA really just wanted to help me with my future, and I got to know a lot of them on a personal level.
