Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2021 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved the people there, everyone was willing to help out (even though they were much much more experienced than I was). I didn’t feel like an outcast and I felt like I belonged.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have found better ways to manage my time. Since I commute about an hour away, I drove, but sometimes I wouldn’t account for the parking time and other miscellaneous things that take up time.

Advice

I developed a program in Unity (a popular game engine), using C# to create visuomotor distortion. Basically what that means is that we purposely create distortion in order to see how people adapt to this new force given a hand eye coordinated task. In this case my main focus was on mouse positioning since this program is intended for the use of a robot (know as B.U.R.T), I demonstrated this distortion using a computer mouse. The clinical use of this experiment is that it can function as a building block for a future device or software developments that require motor training surgery, piloting, and neurorehabilitation.

Nurse Intern

May - August 2023 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I liked being able to interact with people of all ages because I worked on a pediatric floor. I also loved learning about the different equipment to help people with different injuries and disabilities.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to pass medication as a nurse intern.

Advice

Effective communication among healthcare professionals is vital to ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding patient care plans! Share information, updates, and observations with your coworkers in a timely and organized manner. It is also ok to not know something and ask for help!
