Sally Fischer Public Relations

PR Intern

January - June 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The close knit office working space and how everything was very hands-on. I had the opportunity of writing press releases, emails, sendings out campaigns for event information and invites, make social media posts, and even come up with marketing strategies.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more time in the office! When COVID-19 hit in March, our in-office experience was cut short and had to switch to online.

Advice

It is a different experience altogether to live one day as a working adult and next day attend class as a college going student, and I would definitely recommend everyone to work for a startup at least once as you are assigned a good chunk of responsibility instead of being dismissed with menial tasks as an intern.

PR Intern

May - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved how much hands-on experience I got! Because the company is so small, I got to see pretty much the whole process of how a project goes!

What I wish was different

We did lots of event planning , and I wish there had been a little more PR.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and speak up if you think you have a good suggestion!

PR Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the intimate environment. Everyone in the office treated the interns like integral parts of the company, and I felt like my work was meaningful as well as informative. I was able to learn about the ins and outs of PR while putting it all into practice.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been a more accessible route for low-income students like me to have access to this and other types of unpaid internships. The Summer in the City program is a great start, but there are more than 10 students in need of financial support at SLC.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions! Internships are meant to be educational, so make sure you're gaining th experience you need to to fully understand what it is like to work in the field you're interning in.
