What I liked

Great management, fun coworkers, easy job while taking summer classes

What I wish was different

I wish it was easier to ask off, since there are only 5-6 employees it is hard to ask off or call in when something happens because there are limited people to cover your shift.

Advice

Taking summer classes and working 30+ hours is manageable if you choose the right job.

What I liked

I liked the fact that the hourly wage was $10 an hour plus commission on certain products. The manager was really good about being flexible with hours during the school year and summer. I liked the hours of the work place also.

What I wish was different

The job itself wasn’t hard unpacking boxes and stocking shelves. However the customers and other employees were the most stressful aspect of working at Sally Beauty. You can’t be responsible for other employees and managers should do a better job hiring because other employees would barely show up, steal, be rude and petty, come hours late for a shift which was very inconvient to the work place. The overall vibe of working here was very stressful and toxic to mental health.

Advice

If you don’t want to be called into work on your days off or asked to come in early or stay later, don’t work here. This happens on a regular basis and the employees who are immature and don’t care about a job don’t get fired they are only given multiple warnings. So it’s a never ending cycle.

What I liked

Meeting lots of new people.

What I wish was different

The hourly pay isn't very much.

Advice

Retail workplaces will generally schedule you around your availability on evenings and weekends; plus it is a great way to learn social and sales skills.

What I liked

I love working with my manager and getting to know and develop real working relationship with the clientele. Building a foundation with the customers that would come in created for me a new perspective when it comes to retail and how much I enjoy working closely with people.

What I wish was different

Being honest I would change how the corporate office changed how they would inform us of new changes. Such as without any of the employees knowing there were several new district managers. There were instances where the DM needed to be contacted and there was no posting or information listed. Also communicate better on their polices because most of them are left to open interpretation left by the customer or the employee to kind of just figure out.

Advice

Come in to work with an open mind and positive attitude. Not every customer is a cake walk and a lot of them know how to abuse the system and pull a fast one over your head. Be sure to stick to your guns and do not be afraid of asking your manager for help when needed. You can work there for months and still not know everything. Be aware that people make mistakes but make sure you use each mistake as a lesson to help you to learn and grow.
