Quantumvest

Equity Analyst Intern

August - December 2024 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

The equity analysis internship role at Quantumvest is a fantastic way of breaking into finance and greatly developed my soft and technical skills when it comes to investment management and finance. Client interactions combined with equity analysis gives the whole package when it comes to building a foundation for financial knowledge. Being able to compete with the other interns through the portfolio management game and apply the financial knowledge you learn is also a great way to solidify the knowledge you learn. Also being able to talk daily with Taylor the CEO and founder is a one of a kind opportunity. However be sure to go above and beyond to truly take advantage of the role.

What I wish was different

Nothing! I had a great time at Quantumvest.

Advice

Be sure to go above and beyond to truly take advantage of the role as it is only a couple months and 15 hours a week.

I enjoyed this internship because it offered a perfect blend of hands-on learning and mentorship. The trading game was a standout experience, sharpening my market instincts in a competitive yet supportive environment. Creating pitch decks for institutional investors gave me practical exposure to presenting ideas effectively while attending client calls and meetings provided valuable insights into professional communication. Learning the firm’s strategies deepened my understanding of the market, and the CEO’s mentorship, including taking us to dinner, created a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere. This experience truly boosted my confidence and equipped me with essential skills for a future in finance. In all, if you ever want to break into Wall Street, this is a perfect starting point!

What I liked

Before proceeding any further, I would like to preface and say that: most of the reviews on this platform are an accurate reflection of the type of unique experience you will have during internship. Regardless if you are well-versed in terms like stocks, bonds, ETFs, cryptocurrency, mutual funds, etc., by being able to work directly under the CEO and president of Quantumvest, they will teach you the key fundamental aspects of the wealth management as well as techniques such as technical analysis to assess risk management or how to analyze which vehicles to invest in. With that said, prior to interning for Quantumvest, I came in with minimal knowledge about wealth/asset management and very little experience, but during my time here, I have gained an invaluable amount of knowledge and experience on how to approach different investment vehicles. From the very beginning, the interns are exposed on how to run a portfolio through Wallstreetsurvivor, but as the internship progresses, one will learn different aspects of technical analysis (trendlines, support and resistance) that can then be applied towards this simulation and what vehicles one can choose to invest in. Likewise, in my case, I–as well as the other interns–were able to work on a pitch deck that could be presented to a potential high-net worth client–given the knowledge we gained from learning about technical analysis as well as key fundamental indicators (ex: P/E ratio, current ratio). Having said this, up above represents the technical side of the internship, but the other half of this internship involves potential client outreach. Similar to the technical side of this internship, we were also taught on how to communicate with potential clients through the usage of tonality–meaning, how to change tones in different speech patterns. In conjunction to this, myself as well as the other interns were able to listen in on client meetings that gave valuable insight into this industry. All in all, this was a very “hands-on” experience working under the CEO and president–which has not only taught me the skillset in how to analyze trends, but more importantly, how the markets move.

What I liked

During my time at Quantumvest, I truly appreciated the opportunity to take on hands-on projects, especially in creating presentations for multinational conglomerates. This gave me the chance to apply what I’ve learned in a practical way while gaining a deeper understanding of what goes into preparing for high-level client interactions. Being able to sit in on client meetings was also incredibly valuable, as it helped me learn more about client relationships and how to build trust and provide tailored solutions. I also really enjoyed the culture at Quantumvest. Having the chance to work closely with the CEO / Senior Portfolio manager & President & Portfolio manager gave me unique insights into the financial world, including how to use industry-leading platforms to spot market trends and use technical analysis to understand them. These experiences not only helped me build my technical skills but also gave me the confidence to contribute to discussions about strategy and performance. Overall, this experience has been a great way to grow my passion for finance and prepare me for future roles in the industry.

What I wish was different

I think having clearer goals or performance metrics for my role would have helped me better measure my progress and identify areas where I could improve.

Advice

Stay open to learning and be willing to take on new challenges, even if they feel outside your comfort zone. This experience is a great opportunity to grow, and mistakes are part of that process.

This role provides hands-on experience with both technical and fundamental analysis to guide trading decisions and monitor market activity. Nothing, they were very inclusive of their schedules and you got a lot of exposure to the daily workings of an RIA firm.

Advice

Be prepared to work diligently and embrace personal growth throughout the internship. The early mornings will challenge your discipline, and the analytical tasks may seem meticulous at times, but the knowledge and insights you gain will far outweigh these challenges. What I liked

This internship was a great way to get me introduced to working in finance. I learned a lot of valuable skills including technical analysis and sales. Throughout the internship I participated in a trading course and manage your own portfolio to compete against other interns. This gave me experience in portfolio creation and management, and I have been able to effectively use this outside of the internship. Having little experience before coming into this internship, learning directly from the CEO and President was very valuable. Learning from their past experiences allowed me to understand what a future career in finance entails and what it takes to make it.

What I liked

Quantumvest truly changed my life for the better. This internship not only taught me skills & relationships that will last a lifetime, but also helped me earn my dream summer internship with Citi doing advisory. Taylor, CEO of Quantumvest, was a direct mentor & helped me develop my mind & skillset to be successful in finance. Through hard-work & self-belief, this internship was highlighted with a pitch to a billion dollar family office. This pitch would help me get direct experience in a client facing role, an opportunity someone in college will rarely experience. The pitch was a massive success, and helped Quantumvest secure over a million in funding. While my time at Quantumvest is coming to an end, this experience & lessons learned directly helped me land my dream summer internship at CitiBank (where I will be making tens of thousands of dollars as a summer intern & a six-figure salary starting out of college). I can not thank Taylor and the Quantumvest team enough for giving me the ability to break into high-level finance and teaching me what it takes to make it as an adult. Again, I speak the highest praises for this company & CEO.

What I liked

My time at Quantumvest was an enriching experience. Mr. Roncancio values punctuality, self-motivation, and determination in interns. He expects his interns to work hard and be the best version of themselves. Responsibilities of this internship included reaching out to clients, creating pitch decks, and researching equities. Interns may also attend off-site client meetings with Mr. Roncancio and learn how to make it in the asset management industry. Mr. Roncancio provides guidance and maintains a positive, energetic office environment. This opportunity provided valuable insights into financial markets, sales, and client interaction. Being able to network with previous Quantumvest interns was extremely valuable, as many work fantastic jobs after the internship and are more than willing to connect, coffee chat, and help with other internship and job opportunities.

What I liked

Not only did this internship serve as a key stepping stone to obtain my first paid internship in the Finance world with PwC, but I also gained lots of invaluable experience about portfolio management and client interaction within the Wealth Management division. Coming into this internship, I had limited knowledge about how a private wealth management firm was run, as well as limited knowledge about client interaction and portfolio management. During my time with Quantumvest, I learned about various technical and fundamental indicators that help with entering and exiting trades on various securities like stocks and ETFs directly from the CEO of the firm. This type of mentorship is truly unique, and I can confidently say that shadowing Taylor on his day to day tasks on top of the mentorship he provides is an experience you will get no where else but Quantumvest. Furthermore, I gained in depth knowledge about how to field new clients for the firm, as well as maintaining interaction with these clients. Most importantly of all, though, I feel like I've learned a lot about how to carry myself as a person going forward. Taylor is a great mentor and has taught me a lot about how to be professional, be punctual, and be great at what you do. All in all, this internship has been great for me both personally and professionally.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be receptive to criticism. You will make mistakes as an intern, but it's how you react to these mistakes that truly matters. Also be willing to work hard, and you will gain a network of connections that will serve you a lifetime. Its like being part of an elite club of like minded individuals in finance, who will help you get your next internship or even job.

What I liked

At my time with Quantumvest I liked the ability to learn form both the president and CEO as they taught me about sales and trading. We went through a trading program that taught technical analysis and presented on multiple stocks that looked like they could be good in the short and long term. We also worked heavily on sales in which we would call up perspective clients and try and help them with their retirement.

What I liked

The main thing I enjoyed while interning at Quantumvest was the mentorship. Austin Roncancio was amazing at breaking down the financial markets and how the finance industry worked as a whole. I learned how to use technical data to evaluate investments, how to create investment strategies for investors, and many other essential skills. My financial knowledge before was very basic, but with the help of the leadership at Quantumvest, I can now confidently move more into the financial world.

What I wish was different

Overall there were not much of anything I would change. The only negative is that it is unpaid but that was made very clear before starting.

I would say to be ready to work and be coachable. You will get a ton out of the internship if you put fourth the effort.

What I liked

This internship has prepared me for a successful career in finance. Going into this internship I didn't know much about the industry. If you are looking at entering the investment space or becoming a financial advisor/planner you will learn concrete skills that will benefit you. I had little experience in investing and now I can chart stocks and am able to analyze various investments. Working for the CEO and President was great. There is a comprehensive learning platform that teaches you technical analysis. The interns participate in a trading simulation where we can apply the knowledge in a realistic setting. This is fun but also teaches you how to manage a portfolio. I got to meet clients and gain valuable relationship building skills. I feel like I am ready to begin my career in finance and understand how to get clients and keep them. I highly recommend this experience.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had this experience sooner in my college career.

Advice

Ask questions and be curious. This is an opportunity for you to learn many tricks of the trade. There is a lot to gain from this experience so dive in, have fun, and keep a good attitude.

What I liked

This internship was an amazing stepping stone for me into the world of Finance. I learned what I should expect moving forward in my career and if this is the field for me. It was my very first internship and it was a great choice because I learned to be punctual, detail-oriented, and got a feel for the real world that lies ahead. I gained and built many skills for example sales, which I learned is one of the most important skills that people who work in Finance should be strong at. We learned how to change tones depending on the situation, how to ask questions to understand the client’s needs, and how to provide solutions to those needs so that the client would consider working with our firm. Another skill was managing my own portfolio on a website called Wall Street Survivor where we had a competition between interns. The simulation allowed us to compete and see who managed the best portfolio at the end. The CEO and President, both helped us throughout the internship and gave us all the information and advice needed to succeed. If you are willing to put in the effort, this internship will equip you with many skills to have a bright future in the finance world.
