What I liked

I loved the exposure to an often overlooked sector of the design industry - grocery. I worked closely with my supervisors and was trusted with different tasks and projects that have added to my personal development as a designer and employee.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been a more well-defined scope for my role as an intern, although this did give way to flexibility in what I was able to learn and see.

Advice

I found this internship through LinkedIn, which is my first piece of advice - use LinkedIn! Second, I would encourage others to just own what you have going for you. I do not have an impressive portfolio. In fact, I barely have one at all - I applied with PDF attachments in an email! Embarrassing in hindsight (and honestly in the moment too), but admitting to what strengths I have yet to develop and just putting what I do have out there created a space of vulnerability that was seen as potential.
