Plug Power

Engineering Co-op

August 2023 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

Two things that I would like to weigh in regarding my second work term at PlugPower is that I was able to get a more in-hand experience with the nature of my work. I got a lot of insights about the way the company is integrated and functions as a whole. This work term made me go through actual requirements and put forward real challenges to be sorted out rather than some project works that I have completed as part of my first work term. I got some good opportunities to get along and engage with some prominent people of the company and share my ideas and get valuable feedback. Apart from that I would really like the work environment and the constant support and love my colleagues are showing upon me. Overall, I feel happy to work here.

What I wish was different

There are few things which I wish to be different. For instance, I got some great opportunity to travel and collaborate with some other interns at the other locations and do projects for the company which was really an intriguing experience. Those kind of opportunities were not there this time as its fall semester and I am authorized for part-time internship. Since this is a fulltime semester, things were a lot busier and it was not easy to get through. But I am happy that I was able to find a balance and had no issues with time management. I also feel like I must have spend or found some more time to learn new stuffs while working around my regular tasks.

Advice

I would like to let you know that, things may not be easy in the beginning to get adjusted to. But give it time while also showing an intent to learn everyday. Have a positive outlook on the tasks regardless of the tasks that are given. Some things may look hard up front, but the more you get into it, the easier it gets. Similarly, some things may seem pretty easy from outside, but only when you are stepping into it, you'll feel like there is more to it and I have to learn a lot. Be equally respectful to the sub-ordinates or low-ranked employees as you respect your superiors or managers. Be friendly in nature and always be open to get feedbacks and work on yourself.
