Philips Respironics

Engineering Co-Op

August 2017 - April 2018 • Monroeville, PA

What I liked

Good money, flexible hours, great people, interesting projects, not just getting coffee.

What I wish was different

I wish I worked in development rather than research.

Advice

Any experience is good experience, keep filling out applications even when you don't hear back, contacts are so much more important than resumes and GPAs - start networking.

R&D Intern Project Management Group

May - August 2018 • Monroeville, PA

What I liked

I really liked the balance between privacy and collaboration, where most people worked independently but asking someone else for their advice was very easy. It was a generally quiet work environment, though if you just listened you could probably hear a conversation happening, quiet enough to tune it out, but loud enough that if you struck up a conversation with someone near you it wouldn't be completely disrupting the peace.

What I wish was different

It might have been nice to have more organization on the internship, since there were times when I didn't have much to do and no specific person to go ask if there was anything else I could do. However, things usually worked themselves out so I actually didn't mind it at all.

Advice

Don't be afraid to talk to other employees to get a feel for what they do. Most people are willing to talk about their work and if it's interesting to you the way the internship is set up it would be easy to do some projects with them in addition to whatever else you have on your list.
