Pentair

Engineering Intern

May - August 2024 • Apex, NC

What I liked

Great company culture and people genuinely want to see you succeed. Everyone I met was willing to help you out if you got stuck on your project. Getting to work in both a lab and office setting allowed me to develop both my hands-on engineering skills and soft skills.

What I wish was different

Advice

The program will provide you with many opportunities to network and participate in professional development activities but it is up to you to make the most of them and ensure they are worthwhile experiences for you. Additionally, everyone is always happy to help so don't hesitate to reach out when you need it.

Supply and Operations Summer Intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed the autonomy of their internship. I was able to work on engaging projects at my own pace. The people here are great and helpful and also understand that as interns we do not know everything.

What I wish was different

Advice

Take advantage of every resource available. There are mentoring, shadowing, intern meet-ups, and many other opportunities to grow as a professional. I recommend taking advantage of these as they will set you up for success within the internship and for your long-term career.

Research & Development Co-op

June - August 2019 • Brookfield, WI

What I liked

I liked working for a water company, because water is integral to life. I felt like my contributions helped people. I also learned a lot about the water industry, and I was able to apply things I learned in school. I also learned a valuable lesson about running experiments in a laboratory versus real-life performance.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have traveled to other Pentair research labs. I also wish that there was also more inter-department communication.

Advice

My advice would be to familiarize yourself with all pertinent terminology as quickly as possible. Clear communication about different facets of the projects is key. And to ask for help.
