Oxfam America

Legal Intern

June - July 2021 • North Andover, MA

What I liked

I loved working with the organization Oxfam! Everyone was so friendly and there was a great sense of community within the team. The projects that I was assigned were super informative, interesting, and I learned so much! I love how intersectional Oxfam was and I was always working on projects that I was passionate about.

What I wish was different

Although out of my control, I would have loved to be in-person at Oxfam, as I was completely remote for the internship.

Advice

Definitely get involved with Oxfam if you are interested in addressing the injustices of poverty. Ask lots of questions and advocate for yourself! Take on projects that are outside of your comfort zone!

Brand & Engagement Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

My supervisor fostered such a great environment where I was able to learn so many new skills, guide the internship to focus on what I am most interested in, ask questions, and meet new people. Everyone was so welcoming and bright.

What I wish was different

I was able to get a stipend from my school, but It only just covered housing, transportation, and living costs in Boston. I wish this internship was paid at least minimum wage though I understand that that was not possible.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions! They have so many online resources for trainings that I was able to access and develop my resume with simply because I asked questions. I'd also recommend attending any extra meetings possible -- "brown bag lunches" and "ERGs" helped me meet and make friends with other interns and full time staff in the company.
