What I liked

I got to conduct my own research project with the help of the facility's Director of Research. I got hands on practice in the healthcare field, learned how to work with patients, conduct my own study, write a manuscript, and publish my results.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more time to learn more of the nuances of the healthcare field. Everything moved so fast, and sometimes I was unable to get the full picture of what things were like at the nursing home. Therefore, I think this research position would be better suited for 5-6 months rather than 3 months over summer.

Advice

Stay in constant communication with your Principal Investigator. I asked an immense amount of questions and relied heavily on Dr. Kovach at the Ovation Community Homes. She was a great help, and really allowed me to focus my efforts on becoming a medical scientist.
