Mentor

May - September 2023 • Westerville, OH

What I liked

I liked designing activities for the students but as far as working the actual RISE programming it was a little intense but still fun and beneficial for the new students.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was some major specific time even for majors that only had one or two new students from RISE I think maybe working out a online session or something for professors that couldn't be there in person could work out.

Advice

It gave me a great opportunity for leadership and I had a lot of people there to help guide me and give me ideas along the way.

Student Affairs Worker

August 2018 • Westerville, OH

What I liked

I love the relaxed environment! There are expectations one must meet when interacting with students, parents and staff, but everyone in the office is encouraging, helpful and patient–– especially when it is your first job experience! The summer job experience was tremendously helpful in gaining experience in other things besides answering phones, such as working on housing projects and data entry.

What I wish was different

I wish campus was closer to home to be able to work more hours.

Advice

Take advantage of all work opportunities offered as much as your schedule allows!

intern

May 2019 • Westerville, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the projects that we worked on.

What I wish was different

Upper management. The scope of what we do at the Point is so large that we never say “no” to anything. Instead we’re pushed too hard to bring money in. The quality of our products suffered. Needless to say, I learned more life lessons than I anticipated I would.

Advice

Come to work everyday with an open mind ready for anything.

What I liked

The variety in clients. Could to meet and interact with people from different walks of life and talents.

Museum Project Intern

May - August 2019 • Westerville, OH

What I liked

Taking what I’ve learned in classes about handling historical objects and observing works, and putting those skills into real world experience!

What I wish was different

I wish I could’ve worked more on my own time. I was only allotted hours when another worker was present. It would’ve made it feel more “real”.

Advice

It’s a lot of mind boggling work that requires intense attention to detail and commitment. Rev up your organization skills!
