Orem Owlz Baseball

Statistics Intern

April - September 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

I really enjoyed having the opportunity to break into pro baseball and make the connections necessary to launch me to a full time job for the following year. It really helped me to see all the different aspects of running a front office for a pro sports team including the parts of the job that may not be so glamorous.

What I wish was different

It was unpaid and so I had to hold another job. Had I been paid I feel like I would have been able to fully immerse myself in a 9-5 experience along with gameday operations.

Advice

Working in sports does not always hold the most convenient hours or dates. I spent a lot of nights at the ballpark while friends were off enjoying the summer

A little bit more organization and defined roles.

Director of Broadcast Operations

May - September 2018 • University of Utah, UT

What I liked

The opportunity to learn how to strive for success with many obstacles. As well as the opportunity to send a live product to an audience of several dozen, to a hundred viewers.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a bigger budget to circumvent consistent technical issues, as well as convince workers who are somewhat familiar with live camera operation.

Advice

Be prepared to work long hours for little pay. This a good opportunity to break into the field of broadcast, if you already have a decent idea of what you're doing. Things can get highly stressful quickly, despite your best efforts at this job. Part of the territory when doing a micro-budget broadcast.
