The staff were great, welcoming, and super willing to help if we ever needed it. I got real experience in a professional setting and was able to work on real projects that was actually used in some cases.

What I wish was different

Almost nothing. It was a really great experience.

American Intern

June - August 2018 • Beirut, Beirut Governorate

What I liked

This internship was an incredible experience that stretched my skills and understanding. It took what I have learned from education class and intercultural studies classes at Houghton and enabled me to put both into practice together. The Lebanese team that welcomed and hosted us taught me so much about ministry, especially what ministry looks like in a Middle Eastern context. Moreover, working for OneHope was a very pleasant experience and they took great care of us.

What I wish was different

I wish that I'd had a little more time to debrief the intercultural experience with the other interns that I was with. Other than that, I don't have a lot of complaints!

Advice

I would suggest that anyone doing this internship be willing to do whatever is asked of them by the team they are working for, even when it feels uncomfortable, menial, or challenging. Our job was to support the Lebanese team and learn from them. Keeping that role in mind was helpful during the challenging days.
