Making connections with Hill staffers and learning more about public policy and the details of the legislative process. I was present for the beginning stages of the Kavanaugh nomination process and the ICE child separation situation.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have been on the Hill during the Kavanaugh hearings. My internship ended right as he was making personal meetings.
It is better to make four or five solid connections than to get forty or fifty business cards. It is also important to make friends with fellow interns rather than trying to compete with them., while still accepting every opportunity (even if it’s doing constituent mail or copying papers for a staffer).
