OC Riptide

Social Media Intern

June - August 2022 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I loved the people that were there and the relationships that I made with the other interns as I speak to a lot of them even to this day. The internship itself was really fun too, especially the media team. We as a group really clicked and got everything done that we were tasked to do in a timely manner. Overall it was an amazing experience that I highly recommend!

What I wish was different

Advice

I would say be social and be able to do the unexpected. No game will be the same and learning to trust yourself as well as the co workers that you have will benefit your experience with the team during the summer. Ask a ton of questions in the beginning so it becomes second nature to what you are doing.

Sports Information Director

June - August 2021 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I liked that I was able to practice what I love doing most. I was able to use what I study back in school in an in-person setting and was able to put my skills to the test. Also, meeting new players and employees that share similar interests was a plus.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wished had been different was the hours, but there really wasn’t any solution to the hours. Being there from warmups to the end of the game was part of my job and I didn’t mind it, that was just the only real downfall to an unpaid internship.

Advice

If you’re serious about the sports industry and want real practice, this is the place to be. It helped me with experience on my resume, and also allowed me to practice everything I’ve learned on an actual team.

Game Day Operations Management and Social Media Intern

June - July 2021 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

The internship with the OC Riptide was such a rewarding opportunity! It was easily one of the most fun summers I have had while also getting great work experience. Working with the Game Day Operations team, I was able to learn what exactly went into set up, tear down, and running a game efficiently. On the Social Media side, we were able to grow the different pages and market the team/players in new, creative ways. The people I got to work with were absolutely amazing. From Mr. Lamm himself to the other interns on staff, there was always something to learn from one another. I built life long relationships and made great connections in my time with the OC Riptide.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish had been different is getting more time there! I learned so much in such a short amount of time. The learning curve was truly unmatched. Getting right to work the very first game and having the ability to perfect what we were doing was something we were all very proud of.

Advice

Your time there is what you make of it! If you want to be more involved or learn something new, ask for the guidance to make that happen. The effort you put into your position effects what you get out of the internship learning wise so ask questions and be involved! The OC Riptide is an organization that genuinely wants to see you grow and succeed.
