Marketing Intern

May - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I absolutely loved creating content. As a student, marketing classes assign projects that are "make believe" or "pretend" apps, campaigns, etc. As an intern, however, I was in charge of researching the company's market segmentation, created content, and analyzed the outcomes of the campaigns. Running most of the project on my own was a rewarding experience. I extended my creativity in content creation, became more efficient in comprehending data, and learned how to work with people across all levels of management.

What I wish was different

This was my first time working in a corporate office. For a gen Z, I was completely out of my element. Working 9 hours in a cubicle made me appreciate the development in workspace design. I have come to realize that I highly value an office that fosters creativity, team work, and a work life balance. Additionally, working in an office that drastically ranged in ages was a challenge. Although this factor isn't changeable, I am grateful to have strengthened my adaptability and ability to understand diversity in a different dimension.

Advice

As with any commitment you make, you get what you put in. Besides the work you create, it is important to foster meaningful relationships with those in your work environment. This summer I created life long friends that have helped me grow socially, professionally, and academically. An internship is more than just a job. My internship was a stepping stone to who I strive to be.
