What I liked
I liked my hands on experience and responsibilities given to me. I am hoping to pursue a career in medical devices. I was fortunate enough to receive an internship these past two summers at a start-up medical device company, Novopedics, that sparked my interest. I assisted in the development of the company's medical device, MeniscoFix, which is a polymer fiber-reinforced scaffold for total meniscus replacement designed to be gradually reabsorbed by the body and be replaced by new tissue. I had the responsibility of hand-making devices in a Class 7 clean room that were sent to Colorado State University for animal studies, creating an early design for a lateral MeniscoFix off Solidworks, and 3-D printing these prototypes. I’ve incredible hands-on experience in my field from the responsibilities given to me. I have fostered a new appreciation for biomedical engineering, and this internship has helped expose me to the world of orthopedics, tissue engineering, implants, GLP, and more.
