Research on the National Bison Range was such an unbelievably unique experience. I really got a feel for what working as a full time researcher in the field and in a research facility is like. I learned so much about the local flora and fauna, and even the history of the western United States, plus, I got to visit national parks. Living in the mountains was also a major perk.
What I wish was different
The huge drawback for me was the lack of guidance. I wish I had had a bit more guidance from my mentor before arriving in Montana, and during the summer, in the form of project planning help, more check-ins, and statistical analysis help.
Advice
Ask questions! Don't be afraid to not know something. And stay on top of the writing process- the last week of the summer can be very stressful if you put it off, and you will not put forth your best work. Do it for the paper! You want to be proud of it so that you can show it off to future employers.
