Northwest Grain Growers

Grain Elevator Operator

July - August 2018 • Dayton, WA

What I liked

A lot of hours so I got a lot of money.

What I wish was different

The work environment was a little rough. Had a port o potty for a bathroom, didn't have doors to the room we sat in all day so it got really dusty and smelly and there was no AC so it got really hot.

Advice

It builds character.

Scale Operator

June - August 2018 • Walla Walla, WA

What I liked

I liked how much I got paid! I also liked the people I met and the skills I obtained from the job such as organization skills, hard work and perseverance.

What I wish was different

I wish I was readily prepared to come back to school because having to prepare for school, find an apartment, pack for school, etc. was really hard to do because I was working such long hours.

Advice

I would say if anyone is thinking about taking on this job, be willing to work hard. 14 hour days, 7 days a week can really start to take a toll on you physically and mentally. Be prepared and willing to have great customer service and dedication to your job.
