Back in 1955, a group of New York Air Brake employees founded Northern Federal Credit Union in Watertown, New York. Their goal was to create a safe, secure place where employees could grow their savings and obtain loans at reasonable rates something the existing financial institutions in town weren't providing. Over time, the credit union grew, expanding its services and welcoming many more members. In 1982, the name was changed to NYAB/TriCounty Federal Credit Union and membership was expanded to include employees and administrators of the 25 school districts, which comprised the North Country Coordinating Council of Teachers. To reflect its growth, the credit union changed its name to Northern Federal Credit Union in 1996. Today, we are known as Northern Credit Union serving more than 30,000 members through nine branch locations across the North Country and a comprehensive online and mobile banking program. Members also have access to its nationwide network of more than 50,000 surcharge-free ATMs.
