Non-profit Assistance Intern
June - August 2019 • Roswell, GA
What I liked
I loved the entire hands-on aspect of working with NFCC. My supervisor, the Assistance Director, made me feel extremely welcome within the non-profit's walls and allowed me to learn about what it meant to work within a non-profit dedicated to serving the community. Working within the environment taught me crucial skills surrounding gaining empathy, showing empathy, and embracing compassion. Additionally, my supervisor taught me so much about different aspects of our community, such as the importance of affordable housing, the role of non-profit organizations within their communities, and the need to push for outreach for every aspect of the community (including business, workplaces, schools, organizations, and beyond).
What I wish was different
The one thing I wish was different was that I wish the non-profit had more funding to work with! It seemed as if (for what NFCC does for the community) they work with relatively little to give back as much as they possibly can to the community.
Advice
I would advise anyone looking into working for NFCC, or any non-profit agencies like them to go into the job with open arms. I matured so much during my ten-week stay and I hope that others get the chance to work in a similar service position to see what it's like to give your time and energy to the community.
