I had the invaluable opportunity to be exposed to the underprivileged, underserved population of SF Chinatown. I gained skills in constructing health care material and public information that is catered towards the target population. I improved my Chinese language skills when translating, interpreting, and interacting with the Asian population. Some specific things I did was checking and troubleshooting blood pressure and blood glucose. I also learned about public health as a healthcare field and understanding my growing interest in it.
What I wish was different
I hoped that the clinical internship program would be a bit more structured. I also hope there was more time for shadowing opportunities.
Advice
It would be most beneficial if you can speak Chinese, specifically Cantonese well.
