What I liked

I liked that my hours were fairly good for retail and I enjoyed a lot of my co workers that I became close with over time.

What I wish was different

Many things- the manager was very unapproachable and had intense mood swings. There were many times when I came home in tears because I was so stressed and not being trained in a way that made me feel comfortable. It was a tough environment already, given the combative customer base, and I feel that in order to prepare employees for the level of difficulty, training needed to be improved. Job turnover was alarmingly high, and in the one month that I was there, the assistant manager was changed 3 times.

Advice

Working retail is tough, and a lot of the times you have to have thick skin, otherwise you will grow it while in the job. I think it is important to have a less than ideal job experience and to grow from situations that make us feel uncomfortable as individuals. It allows us to learn more about ourselves, what makes us tick, and personal boundaries. I like to say that this job taught me things the hard way, but regardless, I learned.
