It allowed me to be in the forensics lab and at the headquarters to see how everything ran. I was able to help out with different tasks and actually have experience rather than do paperwork
What I wish was different
Worked more hours! Even though it was unpaid I would’ve done even more

You’re not in the classroom anymore! Everything is very real and you have to put your best foot forward

Seeing how a real forensic lab worked and working with actual forensic analysts.
What I wish was different
It was very far away so the commute was tough.

It was a amazing and I would encourage everyone to get an internship in the field they want to pursue as a career.

New Jersey State Police Intern

What I liked
I was able to gain access to NJSP data and create dissemination reports for police jurisdictions and attorneys offices across NJ. I was also able to be up close and personal in new trooper training modules. They took us to the FBI gun range in Fort Dix, as well as the FBI field office in Newark.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have worked more in investigative work.
Advice
Keep an open mind. They'll show you parts of law enforcement you never considered before.

I wish It was a longer internship and I could experience more things with my supervisors/
Advice
Always show up 15 minutes early, be properly dressed, and greet everyone with the goal of making a great first impression. You never know who will be reviewing your application or helping you get a position in the future!

What I liked
I liked what was required of me at my internship. The assignments were attention grabbing and exciting.
What I wish was different
I wish it had been a little more consistent but my work was as needed and in the criminal justice field, when you are not needed that means there is low crime occurring.
Advice
In the criminal justice field, making connections anywhere you can is always beneficial and could be useful in the future.

What I liked
I loved how hands on I got to be as an intern. I was able to see the inside workings of the station rather than just sit at a desk all day.
What I wish was different
There was only a need for a half day intern, so I wish I had been able to stay for full days and work more.
Advice
It was a very laid back position and hours were flexible.
