Summer Research Assistant

June - August 2021 • Sarasota, FL

What I liked

Working with my thesis advisor full-time over the summer, I gained valuable skills and knowledge about both the field in general and my specific thesis research topic. This summer experience greatly propelled my thesis work the following semester and helped me to solidify my post-graduation intentions for graduate school, where similar lab work is routine.

Manatee Vocal Behavior Summer Intern

May - August 2020 • Sarasota, FL

What I liked

I loved the work. In this internship we studied African manatee vocal behavior which had never been studied before and is in my exact field.

What I wish was different

I wish COVID-19 was not occurring it would have been nice to meet in person and chat, but it was very easy to do the work digitally and everyone was able to remain healthy.

Advice

Even if you do not think you will get the internship, apply for it anyway, it is worth the risk because the worst they can say is no!

Marine Biologist Intern

May 2020 • Sarasota, FL

What I liked

I loved the ability to work on contemporary and unprecedented research from methods to communication even as an undergraduate, and also to be paid for it.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to visit or see the data collection area but due to the Pandemic and the distance to said area that was impossible.

Advice

If you aren’t able to complete something as fast as you were supposed to, it is okay; you can work together to rework pacing.
