I truly love working as a tutor. I work with a great team. They all have been very supportive during these tough times. I'm grateful to have this student worker job. My schedule is very flexible.
What I wish was different
Nothing.
Advice
I would say organize yourself when you have student worker jobs. Also, being a tutor isn't just another "job". Being a tutor is also being a mentor for other students and really supporting students so they can succeed in class.

What I liked
I liked being surrounded by highly motivated individuals. It was a great setting in which students collaborate, share ideas, and push each other mentally.
What I wish was different
I do not wish anything we’re to be different. I loved the program.
Advice
Do not be intimidated by research. Submerge yourself in the material and everything will fall into place.

INBRE Student Researcher
May 2018 - July 2019 • Henderson, NV
What I liked
I liked the hands-on experience of the research.
What I wish was different
I wish my mentor was more beginner-friendly.
Advice
Try to keep up with all the homework they give for better understanding and discussions. Also try to stay on top of your lab book from the beginning or you'll fall behind on organization.

Student Worker
May - December 2018 • Henderson, NV
What I liked
That the scheduling worked with my classes
What I wish was different
They actually train you for the job. Working registrar and them telling you “you’ll learn from other student workers” was absolute BS
Advice
Make sure you get a good supervisor. Don’t be afraid to speak to HR

Science Tutor
August 2018 • Henderson, NV
What I liked
The best part of my job has always been seeing students be able to put the pieces of a puzzle together! Usually most students have all the tools they need to solve a problem, I just help them realize what order to use those tools in.
What I wish was different
Since it was the summer semester, I simply wish there had been more students on campus for me to help out.
Advice
My advice for anyone looking to be a tutor (or any sort of peer mentor) on campus is to always try your best and have fun.

Undergraduate Researcher
May - July 2019 • Henderson, NV
What I liked
I gained a better understanding of organic chemistry and learned advanced lab techniques that are essential to laboratory research. But mostly I enjoyed the process of trial and error in synthesizing a novel compound. I would recommend the INBRE or Epscor program to anyone wanting real lab experience, whether to add to their skill set for future plans, or even to help clarify what those future plans (e.g. post grad or employment plans) should be.
What I wish was different
I wouldn't change a thing about my experience.
Advice
Make sure to meet all onboarding deadlines and pay attention to announcements from your supervisor regarding required tasks. I met all the deadlines and had no issues.

Student Government
August 2017 • Henderson, NV
What I liked
Engagement with students.
School initiatives.
Helps me with my degree (Communication - Public Relations).
What I wish was different
Increased wages. With what the student government does on and off campus, I have reason to believe that we should get some (slightly) larger pay wage.
Advice
Enjoy and embrace the experience of being a part of the student government! There is no experience like it, especially with how many students we have the opportunity to engage with!
